English 3 Honors has been called the hardest course in the English curriculum at LFHS. That may or may not be the case, but it is most definitely a challenging—and potentially exhilarating—course.
This course will take you on a journey through the final year of our three-year core sequence, demanding that you seek your own answers to questions on topics as diverse as the nature of art, the ability of literature to capture thought, the fine line between tragedy and comedy, and the universality of teenage experience. It asks you to contemplate at last a fundamental question: How do we in essence create ourselves? Along the way, through both formal and informal analytical writing as well as many creative endeavors, you’ll find plenty of opportunity to hone and develop your own personal writer’s voice.
There are a great many freedoms in this course, including the chance to affect the curriculum itself as well as the promise that I will listen to you if things ever become over-burdensome. But in return a great deal is expected of you here, and only if you run with that challenge will the year be what it can really be. |
